Volume 1 of the 86 Eighty-Six magical girl spin-off manga series titled 86: Maho Shojo Regina Lena ~Tatakae! Ginga Koko Senkan San Magnolia was released on Thursday. The spin-off is written by Suzume Somemiya and has been serialized in Monthly Comic Alive since March 27, 2023, and is also known under the 86: Eighty Six – Magical Girl Regina ☆ Lena: Fight! Galactic Navigating Battleship San Magnolia title.
The Maho Shojo Regina Lena follows the story of Vladilena Milizé as a magical girl, fighting alongside Handlers who are also magical girls fighting off countless enemy forces called the “Legions.” Somemiya had previously written another 86 Eighty-Six manga spin-off titled 86: Operation High School, which was also serialized in Monthly Comic Alive from June 27, 2020, to August 27, 2021.
The story is an addition to the list of manga that originated from the 86 Eighty-Six series. So far it includes the canceled 86: Run Through the Battlefront with art by Hakuya Yamasaki and a prequel spin-off titled 86: Fragmental Neoteny, as well as the canceled manga adaptation of the original light novel. The original 86 Eighty-Six light novel series is written by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabii. It began serialization in 2017 under ASCII Media Works.
Yen Press has licensed both the original light novel and manga series in English, with the light novel’s plot described as:
