Akira Toyama's Sand Land To Get an Animated Adaptation in 2023

Akira Toyama’s Sand Land will be animated, as announced earlier today with a teaser trailer. The adaptation of the single-volume manga will be produced by SUNRISE, Kamikaze Douga and ANIMA, The release date has been set for 2023 and comes over 20 years after the initial release date.

Sand Land was originally serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from May to August 2000 and later published in a single volume. Viz Media licensed it in English in 2003 and describes the plot as:

In the far future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the supply of water is controlled by the greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asked the king of the demons for help…and got the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. Together the unlikely trio sets off across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest foe of all… the King’s army itself! It’s travel adventure and tank action in this new story from Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball Z!

Akira Toyama is best known for his shonen hit series, Dragon Ball.
