Anime Studio Ufotable Inc. Accused Of Tax Evasion

The studio behind the famous anime Kimetsu no Yaiba and the highly popular series Fate have been accused of evading some ¥139 million in taxes. The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau has filed a criminal complaint with the Tokyo District Public Prosecutor’s Office, accusing Ufotable and its 50-year-old president, Hikaru Kondo, of violating the corporate and consumption tax laws.

 Ufotable offered an apology to fans and people concerned over the case in there website.

The company said it has already filed revised tax returns and completed payments for the years ending in August 2015, August 2017, and in August 2018. Ufotable is suspected of hiding ¥446 million in income and evading ¥110 million in corporate taxes and ¥29 million in consumption taxes over the three years by manipulating the books at four cafes it runs in Tokyo and Osaka.
