About Black Clover manga

The manga reached 17 million copies in circulation back in December 2021 with Volume 31. Now, after almost two full years, the current Spade Kingdom Raid Arc is finally reaching its much-anticipated climax.

The most-watched series on Crunchyroll in 2020 came to a halt back in March 2021, stopping at episode 170. While this does not confirm an official end to the Black Clover anime, the series is on indefinite hiatus until further notice. There could be a number of reasons for this.

For one, the hiatus gives the creator, Yuki Tabata, more breathing room with the manga. The anime being right behind the manga became a reoccurring problem with the series. While this could possibly be the main reason for the series hiatus, another is that Studio Pierrot wants to shift their focus to animating Bleach for its upcoming return this fall. Whatever the reason, the future of the Black Clover anime is up in the air for now. But the possible success of the movie could entail a hopeful return for the anime series.

Kajiwara, Tanemura comments on Black Clover’s future

During the 2021 Crunchyroll Expo, Asta’s voice actor, Gakuto Kajiwara, expressed his feelings on the current state of the series after it ended on episode 170. “But I really don’t want it to end here,” said Kajiwara. “I hope you’ll continue to support us then, too.”

Series director Ayataka Tanemura talked about the harsh deadlines the Black Clover staff faced every week during the 2021 Crunchyroll Expo. But he made sure fans knew that the staff wholeheartedly loved the series and worked extremely hard. Tanemura wants fans to be hopeful for a series return.

“If there is a continuation, I hope to see you all again,” said Tanemura.

So, just like us, it seems they don’t know whether the anime series will come back or not. Since the anime ended, the movie announcement is the only news that fans received regarding the series up until this point. Looking at the glass half-full would be ideal. Both Tanemura or Kajiwara wouldn’t have expressed these feelings if they knew the anime is officially over with.

The Black Clover movie now joins a growing list of shonen anime movies. My Hero Academia: World’s Heroes Mission became a box office success. And the highly praised Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie will be released in US theaters on March 18. Looking at the exponential growth of Black Clover across the globe over the past few years, the upcoming movie has the potential to be a box office success as well.
