We’re getting ready to enjoy the newest entry in the long-running JRPG (Japanese Role-Playing Game) franchise, Final Fantasy. Here is everything you need to know about Final Fantasy XVI, right up until the moment the game releases!
Final Fantasy XVI was confirmed to release worldwide on June 22, 2023, during The Game Awards 2022, hosted by Geoff Keighley. The game reportedly went “gold” at the end of March, meaning that the development team has fully finished the game. In an interview with GameInformer, Director Hiroshi Takai promised that there would not be a Day 1 patch for FF16—you can start playing the moment you have the game!
Final Fantasy XVI is a PS5-Exclusive, with a minimum six-month limited-time exclusion period for Sony’s console. That means PC players won’t see a release until at least early 2024, but Square Enix hasn’t announced a PC release yet. There hasn’t been any indication that the developers, Creative Business Unit III, intend on releasing for Xbox Series, either.
Depending on where you are in the world, the Standard Edition will cost $69.00 (USD), with a bonus in-game accessory and weapon for pre-orders.
Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition of the game retails for $99.00 (USD) and includes the base game package with a reversible cover, a cloth map of Valisthea, and a special SteelBook case. The Digital Deluxe Edition replaces the map and physical cases with a digital artbook and soundtrack.
Square Enix has described FF16 as a “single-player action RPG,” with most of the gameplay videos so far highlighting the dark narrative and the real-time combat. The game will feature partially open environments across the land of Valisthea, and follows the protagonist, Clive Rosfield, across three distinct periods of his life.
We’ll keep you posted with the latest news about FF16, so keep an eye out for updates on our website in the days before the game’s release!
