Fruits Basket anime ended today, after 3 seasons. A side-story, The Story of Kyoko and Katsuya was announced after the final episode. The format is still unknown, but it will air in 2022.
In addition to the announcement, a “Thank You” movie for the fans was also released:
Fruits Basket manga was serialized in Hana to Yume magazine from 1998 to 2006. Fruits Basket Another sequel came from 2015 to 2020. In addition to the sequel, a side story covering The Three Musketeers Arc is also available.
The first anime adaptation came in 2001, but it didn’t cover the entire story (Studio DEEN). TMS Entertainment and 8 Pan co-produced the reboot, which started airing in 2019. The reboot has 3 seasons, with a total of 63 episodes. The first two had 25 episodes each, while Fruits Basket: The Final had 13.
Yen Press licensed the manga and describes the plot as:
After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out…into a tent! Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac!
Not a lot of information is available about the Fruits Basket side-story yet, but we know that The Story of Kyoko and Katsuya will focus on the relationship between Tohru’s parents. They played a pivotal role in her life, and her mother’s death set the events of the main story in motion.
