The global version of the Sword Art Online -EX-CHRONICLE- Online Edition Virtual Reality event is coming in English on February 22! The event was previously held exclusively in Japan in 2021, while the tickets for the global version went on sale on December 17, 2021 (you can still purchase yours!). The event features VR and other online experiences for Sword Art Online fans, including numerous materials and an immersive world view of the anime. In addition, visitors will be able purchase official merchandise produced exclusively for the event. You can watch the latest teaser:
The event boasts offering a unique online experience, featuring a 360-degree virtual space that will make it seem like fans have dived into the world of Sword Art Online. The experience will not be limited to VR headsets and gaming PCs, and fans without those will be able to enjoy the EX-CHRONICLE’s WEB VR via regular PCs or smartphones.
The free areas include the “Town of Beginnings” and “Boss Battle”, and the latter will allow the visitors to pick up SAO weapons and fight The Skull Reaper in real time alone or with friends. You can see the other areas below, and the event will also feature special behind the scenesc
There will also be limited merchandise exclusive to the global version, and it includes physical items like T-shirts and towels along with digital content. The physical merchandise is available for pre-orders in Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, and US. The digital content is not restricted by region or quantity. Finally, the global version of the Sword Art Online -EX-CHRONICLE- event will feature a special mini-live online concert by ReoNa on March 6, 2022. The recording will use the virtual camera system “jeannedarc” and link the virtual space with a motion capture studio. CG and the real ReoNa will appear at the concert.
The Japanese singer was the singing voice for Elza Kanzaki in the Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online anime. Her single “forget-me-not” was used as the second ending theme to Sword Art Online: Alicization, and her single “Niji no Kanata ni” was used as the ending song for episode 19 in the same season. In addition, her single “Anima” was used as the second opening theme for Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld.
The global version of the Sword Art Online -EX-CHRONICLE- VR event will be held from Tuesday, February 22, 2022 1:00 PM until Friday, March 11th, 2022 4:59 PM (JST). For Pacific Standard Time (PST), it’s from Monday, February 21st, 2022 8:00 PM – Thursday, March 10th, 2022 11:59 PM. It will be available in Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, and the United States.
