Sword Art Online: Sugary Days, novel showing Kirito and Asuna’s married life, is officially receiving a standard commercial release. The novel will launch in Japan on August 7, showing a story centered on Kirito and Asuna’s newlywed life.
Set shortly after the events of The Day Before, the story follows Kirito and Asuna as they begin their married life in the log cabin on Aincrad’s 22nd Floor. Starting as a peaceful slice-of-life story, it eventually leads the couple on a quest to commission handcrafted furniture, including a dining table and a rocking chair from the skilled craftsman player Mahokl.
Written by series creator Reki Kawahara, Sugary Days was first released as a collection of short stories at multiple events before being revised and partially compiled as a bonus novel included with the limited edition Blu-ray release of Sword Art Online II in 2015. Kawahara later published a complete novel-length edition with a new epilogue in 2018. The upcoming release will be the story’s first standard retail publication.
The announcement follows the recent reveal of Sword Art Online the Movie: Integral Domain, a brand-new original anime film scheduled to premiere in 2028. Based on a story concept by Kawahara, the film will be directed by longtime series character designer Shingo Adachi and produced by A-1 Pictures and Psyde Kick Studio.
