Godzilla: Singular Point at AnimeJapan 2021

Godzilla: Singular Point is among the many anime teased during AnimeJapan 2021, which has been streamed last March. Also, the series, which already debuted in Netflix Japan last March, is now being broadcast in the country.

Godzilla is one of Japan’s most iconic science-fiction characters, having made its first appearance in the classic 1954 film directed by Ishirou Honda. Since then, more than 30 other movies are produced not only in Japan but also in the United States.

Director Atsushi Takahashi directs this all-new anime series animated by studio Bones in partnership with studio Orange. Composer Kan Sawada takes charge of the series’ musical score, while novelist Toh Enjoe makes his TV debut as editor and writer in this series.

Kazue Kato, who created the popular Blue Exorcist manga serves as character designer, and animator Eiji Yamamori who has done previous work for Studio Ghibli takes on kaiju design.

The voice cast includes Yume Miyamoto, Shoya Ishige, Misaki Kuno, Yohei Azakami and Kenichi Suzumura, who graced the AnimeJapan 2021 stage last March 27.

Miyamoto is cast as Mei Kamino, a graduate student who is studying fantasy creatures. Ishige is cast as Yun Arikawa, an engineer who works at the Otaki Factory workshop. Kuno voices Pero 2, an AI born out of software Mei has installed.

The official trailer for Godzilla: Singular Point posted on YouTube has already revealed that it will run for over 13 episodes. Moreover, the series is coming to Netflix worldwide this June.

This series is the first Godzilla television series to be produced in over 20 years, the last one being the American-produced Godzilla: The Series which aired from 1998 to 2000.

The series’ synopsis from Netflix reads: “Brought together by a mysterious song, a grad student and an engineer lead the fight against an unimaginable force that may spell doom for the world.
