Haikyu!! Movie to Get Southeast Asia Theatrical Release in May

Medialink announced that the Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle movie will premiere in Southeast Asia. The movie will be opening in cinemas this May 2024 in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and the Philippines. The exact showing dates have not yet been revealed.

Medialink also opened the movie in Hong Kong and Macau on April 11, and Taiwan on April 12. The movie is available in IMAX, 4DX, and MX4D.

Haikyu!! is a manga by Haruichi Furudate which was on the Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2020. Production I.G. has produced 4 seasons of its anime adaptation, including its most recent film, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, which premiered in Japan on February 16, 2024. The movie follows the events of Volume 34 with the Nekoma vs Karasuno match in the “Tokyo Nationals Arc.” Viz Media publishes the manga in English, and describes the plot:

The long-awaited Dumpster Battle begins! Nekoma, known for its defense, shocks everyone by going with aggressive synchro attacks! Meanwhile, Tsukishima watches blocking master Kuroo effectively curb Karasuno’s assault and declares he can’t outdo him…at least, not on his own!

The movie announced that it has earned ¥81.9 billion (~US$541 million) in box office revenue, as well as celebrated a viewership of 6.1 million people or 5% of Japan’s approximately 123 million population. Crunchyroll is handling its international theatrical release and will also begin screening in May.
