Haikyu: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump Earns ¥81.9 Billion in Box Office Revenue

The Haikyu: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump movie has announced that it has earned ¥81.9 billion (~US$541 million) in box office revenue. A commemorative visual has been released following the announcement:

Haikyu!! Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump, which serves as the first of two films for the Haikyu!! Final juncture of the series. The film was released on February 26, with Production I.G animating it. Susumu Mitsunaka directed it, with Takahiro Kishida doing the character designs. Meanwhile, Susumu Mitsunaka did the screenplay, Takahiro Chiba serving as the chief animation director, and Yuki Hayashi composing the music.

The movie had scored a three-day box office opening of 2.23 billion yen (US$14.86 million), opening at #1 in Japan. Despite the movie airing during a weekday, it managed to have an opening that is comparable to the recent Spy x Family Code: White release, which made 1.2 billion yen across its first three days of release.

Haikyu!! is based on a manga by Haruichi Furudate which was serialized in the Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2020. The manga ended after 405 chapters, compiled into 45 volumes. It had four seasons, the first one airing from April to September 2014, the second one from October 2015 to March 2016, the third from October to December 2016, and the fourth season airing for two cours: from January to April 2020 and October to December 2020.
