Frieren Anime Spin-Off Calls Mount After Ayana Taketatsu's Comments on Aura

Fans of the popular Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime series gathered to manifest a new spin-off series under Ayana Taketatsu’s recent X (formerly Twitter) post – centered around her character, Aura the Guillotine. Taketatsu had quote replied to an image of Aura, “I wish I had a chance to play her again.

Sentiments from fans, such as “I would like to see a story about Aura-sama’s past!” and “Let’s create a spin-off work about Aura-chan’s reincarnation‼️‼️” comprised many of the comments. Others highlighted the recent Frieren character poll which received 12.6 million votes; Aura placed second with 1.05 million votes, above even the series’ lead protagonist, Frieren. Even Taketatsu joined fans in their surprise at Aura’s ranking.

While Aura’s death by Frieren means she won’t appear in the present story, with the latter’s line, “Aura, kill yourself,” ranking highly in Anime! Anime!’s Most Popular Quotes of 2023, further stories centered on the character are a possibility given her popularity. Numerous Frieren spin-offs launched in the past also display a clear appetite for expanding the universe.

More generally, Frieren teased a new anime continuation in a post made after Season 1’s finale. The anime series proved a massive hit with fans in terms of popularity, with the manga series’ sales doubling due to its adaptation. Directed by Keiichiro Saito, with the screenplay by Tomohiro Suzuki, and music by Evan Call, the anime streams on Crunchyroll, and is described:
After the party of heroes defeated the Demon King, they restored peace to the land and returned to lives of solitude. Generations pass, and the elven mage Frieren comes face to face with humanity’s mortality. She takes on a new apprentice and promises to fulfill old friends’ dying wishes. Can an elven mind make peace with the nature of life and death? Frieren embarks on her quest to find out.
