AFK Journey will launch a crossover event with Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End on May 1, 2026, as announced by publisher Farlight Games.
The collaboration introduces Frieren and Himmel as playable characters. Both can be obtained by logging in during the event or recruited using in-game Invite Letters.
The crossover features an original in-game storyline. According to the event description, Frieren and Himmel are transported through a temporal rift while traveling toward the Demon King’s castle, arriving in Cedartown within the Duchy of Whiteridge in Esperia. There, they assist local characters in resolving a crisis tied to the region.
This marks the third major collaboration for AFK Journey, which is available as a free-to-play title on iOS, Android, and PC.
Kanehito Yamada writes the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga, with illustrations from Tsukasa Abe. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday manga magazine since April 2020. The manga is available to read via Sunday Webry, Viz Media, and the Shogakukan Comic website, while Crunchyroll streams the anime.
Studio MADHOUSE is in charge of the anime adaptation. The first season was directed by Keiichiro Saito, while Tomoya Kitagawa directed the second. The series composition was handled by Tomohiro Suzuki. Reiko Nagasawa was the character designer, with the chief animation direction led by Yuri Fujinaka, Reiko Nagasawa, and Maru Takase. Evan Call composed the music. Season 3 is set to release in October 2027.
