Haikyu!! has received a new collaboration music video featuring BURNOUT SYNDROMES’ “PHOENIX.” The video premiered on the official Shonen Jump YouTube channel as the 58th entry in its JUMP MV series.
The collaboration features manga panels from Haruichi Furudate’s Haikyu!! and “PHOENIX,” which was previously used as the first opening theme for the anime’s fourth season, Haikyu!! TO THE TOP.
BURNOUT SYNDROMES has a long history with the Haikyu!! anime, having performed multiple theme songs for the anime. In addition to “PHOENIX,” the band performed “FLY HIGH!!” and “Hikariare,” which were used as opening themes for the anime’s second and third seasons, respectively. Both songs previously got JUMP MVs.
The release comes on August 19, celebrated as “Haikyu!! Day” in Japan. A separate Haikyu!! RECEPTION #3 program is also scheduled for later today, where new information on Haikyu the Movie: VS The Little Giant and the Haikyu!! Where the Monsters Go special anime will be announced.
The JUMP MV announcement also mentions the upcoming Haruichi Furudate Haikyu!! Exhibition: Challengers, the manga’s third original art exhibition.
Haruichi Furudate is the creator of the Haikyu manga (stylized as Haikyu!!), which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2020. Production I.G was in charge of animating both the movie and the TV anime. The first season aired in 2014, followed by the second one which started in Fall 2015 and finished in Winter 2016. Season 3 ran for 10 episodes in Fall 2016, covering Karasuno vs Shiratorizawa match. Season 4 was titled Haikyuu!! To the Top, and it ran for 25 episodes over two cours – Winter 2020 and Fall 2020. In addition to the TV anime and recent movie, the franchise also has multiple recap movies, OVAs, side stories, stage plays and games.
