January 31st Registered as "Final Fantasy VII Day" in Japan

Square Enix has officially registered January 31st as “Final Fantasy VII Day” with the Japan Anniversary Association. The company announced that this is to commemorate the anniversary of the original RPG game, which was launched 26 years ago on January 31, 1997.

In line with this, Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the FFVII Remake project, prepared an anniversary message. The official English Twitter translates his message as:

“The 31st of January 1997, the day that FINAL FANTASY VII came out, was not just a significant of the FINAL FANTASY series, but also marked when so many big things started moving for those of us who worked on the game.
I remember being overwhelmed at the breakneck speed with which video game technology was evolving, but also dreaming big things for the future.
With the establishment of this official anniversary day, I will now always remember these things, and hold them dearly in my heart.”

In case you didn’t know, the FFVII Remake was released on April 10, 2020. During the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration, they unveiled a lineup of game trailers following the remake project. An enhanced and expanded version, the Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, was released for PlayStation 5 and Windows in 2021. Meanwhile, the remaster of the prequel game. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, was released in December 2022. Square Enix also announced that the FFVII Remake was the first part of a trilogy. The second installment, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will release this winter.
