The previously announced Junji Ito Maniac: Tales of the Macabre anime revealed a premiere date – January 19, 2023, only on Netflix. The anime will cover 20 of Junji Ito’s stories, including Tomie, Souichi, and The Hanging Balloons. Stills from four stories were revealed, and they feature Souichi and Tomie:

This is not the first anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s works. Studio DEEN’s Junji Ito “Collection” aired in the Winter 2018 anime season. It adapted some of Souichi’s stories. Two-episode special centered around Tomie by the same studio premiered in April, with the second episode airing in May of 2018. Uzumaki, another one of Ito’s works, is also getting an anime adaptation which is set to air this October.
Ito is well known for his horror manga titles. Uzumaki: Spiral Into Horror, Gyo, Tomie, The Enigma of Amigara Fault, and Remina are some of the better-known ones. He also wrote autobiographical manga about his cats, titled Junji Ito’s Cat Diary: Yon & Mu.
