Made in Abyss Live-Action Adaptation in the Works

Made in Abyss live-action adaptation is in the works with Columbia Pictures, according to Deadline. Kevin McMullin is in charge of the adaptation.

Kevin McMullin is a director and a producer. His best-known work is the Low Tide movie from 2019. In addition to McMullin, actor Masi Oka is producing. He starred in multiple movies and TV shows, most notably Heroes and Hawaii Five-0. He also had a minor role in Netflix’s Death Note adaptation.

Vertigo Entertainment company is also producing. Sony Entertainment owns Columbia Pictures, which is where the Made in Abyss live-action adaptation is coming to life.

Made in Abyss is a manga series by Akihito Tsukushi. It started serialization in 2012 and currently has over 58 chapters. It received an anime adaptation in 2017, followed by a sequel movie in 2020. In addition to the sequel movie, the franchise also has 2 recap movies and a game. Season 2 is also in production.

Seven Seas licensed the Made in Abyss manga and describes the plot as:
In an age when the corners of the world have been scoured for their secrets, only one place remains unexplored–a massive cave system known as the Abyss. Those who traverse its endless pits and labyrinth-like tunnels are known as Cave Raiders. A young orphan named Riko dreams of following in her mother’s footsteps as a Cave Raider, and when she meets a strange robot when exploring the Abyss, she’s one step closer to achieving her goal!
