Oshi no Ko manga will be going on a four-week hiatus due to Aka Akasaka’s health issues. The author stated that he is back to work now, but that he wasn’t feeling well for about a month and as a result, the new chapter of the manga will be out on September 14th in the Weekly Young Magazine issue #41/2023. While the main Oshi no Ko series is on a break, the manga artist, Mengo Yokoyari, will be drawing a short side-story titled Oshi no Ko -interlude- that will be serialized for four weeks.
Oshi no Ko manga began serialization in 2020. A total of 12 volumes and 125 chapters are currently out. Akasaka, who is known for his Kaguya-sama: Love Is War series, authored the series. He recently announced retirement as an artist, stating that he will now focus on writing stories. Mengo Yokoyari, the artist for the Oshi no Ko manga, did the art for multiple one-shots but is best known as the author and artist of Scum’s Wish. The manga received a successful anime adaptation that aired in the Spring 2023 anime season. Doga Kobo animated it, under the direction of Daisuke Hiramaki. A sequel is currently in the works.
The plot follows a gynecologist who gets reborn as his favorite idol’s child. To solve his new mother’s murder, he embarks on a journey to expose the dark truth of the entertainment industry. Yen Press licensed the story in English and describes it as:
Gorou is an ob-gyn with a life far removed from the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry—the world of his favorite idol, rising star Ai Hoshino. But when the two are unexpectedly brought together, their fates become intertwined in ways that defy all reason. For the good doctor, it’s time to stan(d) and deliver!
In addition to Oshi no Ko, Aka Akasaka’s other ongoing manga, Renai Daikou, is also going on a hiatus with new chapter coming on September 7. 5mm Nishizawa is the artist for this work.
