Platinum End episode 11 features a high-stakes battle between Metropoliman and the main cast! The tension is as high as its ever been throughout the show. The best and worst parts of Platinum End are on full display in this epic showdown. Let’s talk about this week’s key talking points in a spoiler-filled discussion.
Viewers might remember that Hajime was hit by Saki’s red arrow last week. Platinum End episode 11 shows the full ramifications of that act. Hajime’s tortured past is seemingly all forgotten thanks to the red arrow. He’s injected with a new zest for life, and is so down horrendous for Saki that it’s comical.
This is absolutely crucial in turning the tide of battle against Metropoliman. Now, Mukaido and Mirai have a way out of the glass dome they’re trapped in. Furthermore, the gang now has an extra member to face off against Metropoliman.
However, conveniently, Metropoliman has a backup of his own. It turns out that he was so prepared for this to happen that he shot three other people with red arrows. It’s perfect, as it makes for an even four versus four between the two teams.
This is clearly just another example of how poor the writing on the show is. Things end up happening that are so convenient for the plot. But at the same time, it’s one of the show’s charms at this point. If you’ve stuck around for this long, you’ve clearly been endeared by the crazy zany hijinks of the show. These are, after all, entertaining in their own right. So I suppose ultimately, that’s a point in the show’s favor.
Another really stupid thing that happens in Platinum End episode 11 is how the battle goes down. You’d think that in a four versus four, both sets of four would be fighting. But apparently, that’s just not how fights go in Platinum End.
In the episode, one of Metropoliman’s cronies fights alone, unleashing gunfire on Mirai and his friends. Mirai and friends then team up to take down this one guy. Literally, no one from Metropoliman’s team helps him out or anything. Metropoliman not wanting to join the fight is understandable, as he doesn’t want to die and is the boss. But the rest of them? Hello? Your teammate is getting decimated out there. What’s the point of a four versus four if you’re going to fight the other team one by one.
But hey, it’s super convenient for team Mirai. One of Metropoliman’s men goes down with barely a fight. This is just a very minor point in the show, and most people might not even think about it. But personally, I think it’s worth discussing here, as it’s just so baffling. Metropoliman’s been painted out as this meticulous tactical mind, and yet his team is making the braindead plays here. It’s ridiculous.
And then the episode dials up its craziness to another degree. The next Metropoliman crony steps forward, and boy is she something. She’s turned on by acts of bioterrorism. She threatens to unleash a virus and infect the world. The best part is that she proposes an ultimatum too. She won’t condemn the world to her virus if she gets to use team Mirai as human subjects for her experiments.
How did we get to this point? Since when was a potentially world-ending virus part of the equation? It feels like literally, anything could happen on Platinum End now, whether it makes sense or not. I wouldn’t be surprised if next week’s episode featured a T-Rex that the team had to take down. It makes as much sense as what happened here.
Anyway, next week’s episode’s sure to be absolutely insane. We’ll get to see how they take down this crazy virus lady, and probably get to see what the final crony has in store. A showdown between Metropoliman and the team will also be rather spicy to watch. So that’s something to look forward to.
Platinum End is streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation. Episode 12 will air on December 24th, 2021.
