Shonen Jump’s Manga School Opens for 2nd Term!

“Shonen Jump’s Manga School” is officially open for recruitment as it launches its second school year! Weekly Shonen Jump, Jump Square, and Jump Plus team up once again to welcome aspiring manga artists nationwide. The program will feature Shonen Jump’s editorial staff members and successful manga authors to teach the “correct answers” for producing manga.

School Curriculum & Mentors

According to their official website, Shonen Jump wants to help and give opportunities for aspiring manga artists. Hence, the recruitment for the second term is officially open again! The program will provide a wide array of lectures about the manga industry. These also include planning, character creation, how to develop a serialized manga, and how to create manga.

Miura Kouiji’s Blue Box – Graduation Work

Miura Kouiji, the manga author of Blue Box (Ao no Haku), is one of the graduates from the school’s first year. He successfully had his work serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump and in other magazines! Miura recommends the school to any aspiring mangaka. He also says that he learned about various genres such as battles, gags, sports, and so on. Lastly, he comments that his most memorable lecture is by Yusei Matsui (Assassination Classroom).

Aside from editors and writers, some notable manga authors will also mentor in the program. According to the curriculum, it will include Tsukuda Yuto (Shokugeki no Soma), Yokoyari Mengo (Oshi no Ko), and Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man), as well as Yuji Kaku (Jigokuraku), and Kagami Takaya (Seraph of the End).

The application period is open from June 14 – 28, 2021. There will also be a total of 50 participants in the program. The term will have lectures every Friday, for a total of 8 sessions. The second term will be through online classes so it will be available to participate from anywhere in the country. The curriculum and lessons will be in Japanese. About Shonen Jump’s Manga School

Jump’s Manga School is a special program by Weekly Shonen Jump, Jump Square, and Jump Plus. It aims to help aspiring manga artists with the knowledge of having the “correct answers” for producing and creating manga. In addition, it will provide direct mentorship from the editorial staff members and successful manga authors from Jump Magazine.

The first school term was from last August to December 2020, with a total of 10 sessions. Furthermore, there were nine manga serial debuts and 24 one-shots published in the magazines. Read more interesting news on our site.
