Top 5 Upcoming Shonen Anime You Should be Hyped for in Spring 2023

The Spring 2023 anime season is practically here, and here are 5 upcoming shonen anime you should be hyped for (or at least try) watching! Three of them are sequels, while the other two are new adaptations of popular shonen manga. Either way, you should definitely give them a chance if you enjoy shonen content.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Swordsmith Village Arc (Season 3)

The first on the list is definitely the upcoming Spring 2023 shonen anime most fans are hyped about, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Swordsmith Village Arc (Season 3). It’s the 3rd TV anime season for Tanjiro and friends, and they’ll be looking to fix their swords and encounter new Upper Moon demons. Studio ufotable is in charge of the animation, and you can watch the a trailer for the anime below:

The Swordsmith Village Arc begins in volume 10 of the manga, and VIZ describes the story:

For the first time in over 100 years, the upper ranks of Muzan Kibutsuji’s Twelve Kizuki are not full. Angered, Muzan dispatches the survivors on another mission. Elsewhere, Tanjiro journeys to a village of swordsmiths and has to explain how his sword was so badly damaged to Haganezuka, the smith who made it. While Tanjiro waits for his sword to be repaired, enemies close in…

Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku

One of the most hyped new upcoming shonen anime for the Spring 2023, Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku is definitely a show you will want to check out. Formerly the strongest shinobi and now a death row convict, the protagonist Gabimaru is given a chance to be set free by finding the Elixir of Life on an island with other death dow convicts and many more dangers. Studio MAPPA is animating, and you can watch the latest trailer:

The Edo period is nearing its end. Gabimaru, a shinobi formerly known as the strongest in Iwagakure who is now a death row convict, is told that he will be acquitted and set free if he can bring back the Elixir of Life from an island that is rumored to be the Buddhist pure land Sukhavati. In hopes of reuniting with his beloved wife, Gabimaru heads to the island along with the executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri. Upon arriving there, they encounter other death row convicts in search of the Elixir of Life… as well as a host of unknown creatures, eerie manmade statues, and the hermits who rule the island. Can Gabimaru find the Elixir of Life on this mysterious island and make it back home alive?

Dr. STONE: NEW WORLD (Season 3)

Another upcoming shonen anime sequel to be hyped is Dr. STONE: NEW WORLD (Season 3). After freeing Ryusui and the events from the TV special, we getting a new anime season to see their next adventures featuring an interesting new character. Studio TMS Entertainment is animating, and you can watch the latest trailer:

One fateful day, all of humanity was petrified by a blinding flash of light. After several millennia, high schooler Taiju awakens and finds himself lost in a world of statues. Mashle: Magic and Muscles

The 2nd new interesting upcoming shonen anime to be hyped about is Mashle: Magic and Muscles. The world is set in a Harry Potter-like wizard setting, while the protagonist is a training beast who can’t use magic (much like Asta in Black Clover). Studio A-1 Pictures is animating, and you can watch the latest trailer:

This is a world of magic where magic is used for everything. But deep in the forest exists a young man who spends his time training and bulking up. He can’t use magic, but he enjoys a peaceful life with his father. But one day, his life is put in danger! Will his muscular body protect him from the magic users who are out to get him? Powerfully trained muscles crush magic as this abnormal magical fantasy begins!

EDENS ZERO Season 2

The last upcoming shonen anime on the list you might want to keep watching in Spring 2023 is EDENS ZERO Season 2. Almost a year and a half since the season 1 ended, Shiki’s adventure will continue on April 1. Studio J.C. Staff is animating, and you can watch the latest trailer:

At Granbell Kingdom, an abandoned amusement park, Shiki has lived his entire life among machines. But one day, Rebecca and her cat companion Happy appear at the park’s front gates. Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King

While not a TV anime like the rest, the Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King movie is another shonen anime to look forward to in Spring 2023. The movie will tell an original story (not from the manga) featuring previous Wizard Kings, and it will premiere on June 16 on Netflix. Studio Pierrot is animating, and you can watch the latest trailer:

VIZ describes the story of Black Clover:
Asta is a young boy who dreams of becoming the greatest mage in the kingdom. Only one problem—he can’t use any magic! Luckily for Asta, he receives the incredibly rare five-leaf clover grimoire that gives him the power of anti-magic. Can someone who can’t use magic really become the Wizard King? One thing’s for sure—Asta will never give up!
