Kana Hanazawa who played Kanade Tachibana in Angel Beats and Nadeko Sengoku in the Monogatari series is joining Urusei Yatsura Reboot anime as Lum’s childhood friend, Ran. The anime also revealed that it would run for two consecutive cours, while confirming the October 2022 premiere. Studio David Production is animating the reboot.
Kana Hanazawa shared her memories of discovering the series: “It was when I was little that I came across ‘Urusei Yatsura’ for the first time. I was amazed by ‘Lum’s Love Song’ I heard somewhere, and it made me want to be able to sing the cute song, and then I listened to it countless times. It’s my favorite song and I definitely sing it at karaoke even now.” As for the character Ran whom she is voicing in the anime, she describes her as a girl with “dual personalities, going from extreme cutesie mode to extreme furious mode,” and adds that her charm points that she will never cease to bore you. Both of the emotions occur for reasons, so she hopes to “play her in a powerful way while standing by her feelings.“
“The cute PV made me even more excited about how the upcoming revival of Urusei Yatsura would look like,” the voice actor started her message to fans. “She tries to plot something, but her plan always fails: I hope for your support to precious Ran-chan, too!” You can check the anime’s first trailer below:

Urusei Yatsura is a manga by Rumiko Takahashi. The series was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday with a total of 34 volumes. The work inspired a TV anime adaptation from 1981 to 1986.
