Attack on Titan's Yoshimasa Hosoya, Daisuke Ono Join SAKUGAN Cast

Episode 4 of SAKUGAN brought us another action-packed episode that introduced us to some new and interesting characters. To the fans’ enjoyment, the SAKUGAN cast in episode 4 brought on some popular voice actors to take on new roles.

Yoshimasa Hosoya

At the end of episode 3, Gagumber and Memempu met an ominous character. Unfortunately, he wasn’t bringing them any good news. At the beginning of episode 4, fans are introduced to Merooro, an agent at the Bureau of Regulation for the colony of Jolly Jolly. The voice actor for Merooro is Yoshimasa Hosoya, recently known for his roles as Reiner in Attack on Titan and Tokoyami in My Hero Academia.

Merooro ends up taking the two into custody upon their arrival to the colony. We didn’t see more of Merooro after the opening scene in episode 4, though. But given his position, we’ll more than likely see him later on. He never really came across as a new antagonist. Rather, he came across as someone who is just doing their job. While he did explain how the two were criminals, implanting a chip in both Gagumber and Memempu to watch their movements seemed odd.

Daisuke Ono

Another character introduced in episode 4 of SAKUGAN is Don, a flamboyant gang leader that has underworld influence in Jolly Jolly. He is voiced by Daisuke Ono, most recently known for his roles as Erwin in Attack on Titan and Jotaro in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Don may be a gang leader, but it is almost hard to take his role seriously. At one point Gagumber is able to escape his grasp with ease. It almost feels like his henchmen during the episode were on their first day of the job. In comparison to Merooro, Don definitely became a character to worry about in the present instead of down the line.

Viewers probably won’t see Don again, especially when Memempu and Gagumber leave Jolly Jolly for good. But in the meantime, he was the current antagonist of episode 4. His particular interest in the other character introduced definitely gives way to more story development. All in all, Ono gave us another amazing performance.

Kana Hanazawa

The last character we were also introduced to was Zackletu, a bad-ass woman who Gagumber immediately falls for the second he sees her. Zackletu is voiced by Kana Hanazawa, famously known for her roles as Kanada from Angel Beats and Mayuri from Steins;Gate. Out of all the new characters introduced to the SAKUGAN cast, it was easy to see that Zackletu would’ve been the fan favorite. She has an awesome character design with a personality that immediately caught all the viewers, and Gagumber’s, attention. Viewers don’t still don’t know much about her character except that she’s an outlaw with a bounty on her head.

Other than helping Gagumber and Memempu escape from Don, it’s hard to tell if we’ll see her again or not. She did have way more screen time than both Moreooro and Don so it would feel pointless if she didn’t.

Watching her and Gagumber take on Don’s henchmen near the bridge was definitely the highlight of the episode.

SAKUGAN Episode 5

Episode 4 definitely continued the trend of Gagumber and Memempu getting involved in more trouble. Unlike episode 3, this episode presented problems that didn’t feel as dangerous. But the new SAKUGAN cast still made episode 4 enjoyable and is definitely deserving of a top-10 spot in our weekly poll. So don’t forget to vote!

With actions, deaths, and character growth, over the past four episodes, SAKUGAN has quietly been one of the hidden gems of the fall lineup.

Episode 5 of SAKUGAN will air on Thursday, November 4, on Crunchyroll.
