The combined 33rd and 34th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump revealed exciting news. Yōkō Akiyama will author a brand new one-shot spinoff manga for the series focused on Endeavor. This one-shot, titled “Boku no Hero Academia Tokubetsu Spinoff: Endeavor’s Mission,” clocks in at 17 pages. The magazine teased the story’s content too. If the headline wasn’t clear enough, the short story features My Hero Academia main characters Deku, Bakugo, and Todoroki battling Endeavor.
This is perfect timing; My Hero Academia is right in the middle of its exciting fifth season. Even more, that season covers the “Internship at Endeavor’s Agency” arc of the manga. This arc features Endeavor and the aforementioned characters as they get some practical work experience. The trainee heroes shadow Endeavor. In the process, they practice applying their abilities to real hero work. Even more, the trio learns more about Endeavor’s perspective as the new number one professional hero, and the new one-shot manga will show a part of it.
For those unfamiliar with Kōhei Horikoshi’s original manga, here’s a brief overview. My Hero Academia takes place in a world where special abilities are exceedingly common. Colloquially known as ‘Quirks,’ these powers are present in about 80% of the population. Basically, nearly every child is born with one and the government regulates their use. The story follows Midoriya Izuku (Deku), a boy born without a Quirk despite both his parents having one. However, Midoriya is able to inherit a special Quirk from the world’s strongest hero, All Might. Then, he enrolls in the hero course at UA Academy, where students learn how to become superheroes.
Akiyama authored several other My Hero Academia spinoff works. Importantly, he was the author and illustrator behind both of the one-shot series that tied into the previous two My Hero Academia movies. This timing makes perfect sense; My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes’ Mission premieres on August 6th. The movie centers on the same characters as the one shot and the current anime arc. Plus, the movie has an original character and a fantastic theme song. All of this isn’t a coincidence; this is an exciting combo of characters and a collection of content you have to check out. The Endeavor one-shot manga will come out on August 2.
