The upcoming trailer for the Free! The Final Stroke has been canceled, due to OLDCODEX going on hiatus. The band was scheduled to perform the theme song for the movie, which would also appear in the new PV.
Free! series’ upcoming film, Free! The Final Stroke announced that they decided to cancel a scheduled release of the trailer for Free! The Final Stroke Part 1, which was supposed to come out on August 19, 2021.
The announcement reveals that the staff of OLDCODEX and the production committee had talks in response to the hiatus and reached the decision to halt the release of the song.
The director and the band met to discuss the theme song, but the hiatus created issues that resulted in the cancellation. Changes couldn’t be made on time, so the release of the trailer was postponed. The new song, titled “Heading to Over – Version:Free –” was scheduled to go on sale on September 15h, 2021.
On August 4, 2021, Suzuki Tatsuhisa, one of the vocals of OLDCODEX, went on hiatus due to his poor health condition. In addition, Tatsuhisa’s wife, the popular singer LiSA, is on hiatus as well. After Tatsuhisa’s announcement, OLDCODEX also paused its activities. At the time, the release of the song was going as scheduled but has since been delayed.
Free! The Final Stroke is Free! series’ 5th movie adaptation by Kyoto Animation. The first part will premiere on September 17, 2021, while is coming on April 22, 2022.
