Part 2 of the Free: The Final Stroke movie revealed a new teaser trailer, along with a visual. The movie, titled The Final Stroke – Kouhen, opens in Japanese theatres on April 22, 2022.
Kyoto Animation is producing the 2-part movie project, which was revealed in April this year. The first part, titled Zenpen, opened in September. The new teaser visual for Free: The Final Stroke – Kouhen is also available below:
Eisaku Kawanami is directing, in addition to also doing series composition and writing the script. Kouhei Okamura and Futoshi Nishiya are designing the characters, while Tatsuya Katou is composing the music. Miku Kadowaki and Kouhei Okamura are the chief animation directors for the Final Stroke movie.
The first Free anime, Free- Iwatobi Swim Club, came out in 2012, while the Eternal Summer sequel followed in 2014. Kyoto Animation and Animation Do animated the first two seasons. In addition, the franchise also has 4 movies and multiple DVD specials, as well as OVA series, with the most recent season, Free: Dive to the Future, that came out in 2018.
The Free anime franchise is loosely on High Speed, a light novel written by Kouji Ouji with Futoshi Nishiya’s illustrations. Futoshi Nishiya also did character designs for the anime series and served as chief animation director, but he sadly died in the Kyoto Animation arson attack in 2019.
