Nijisanji's Mirei Gundo To Graduate on June 21 Following Suspension Earlier This Year

Japanese VTuber agency Nijisanji has announced that its talent Mirei Gundo will be graduating from the agency on June 21. According to its official statement, the announcement was done under a mutual agreement of both parties.

Nijisanji suspended Mirei Gundo after she made a joke that offended baseball fans. The suspension, which happened in March this year, was over Gundo’s tweet which said “Can’t you get someone off the field by throwing the ball at their head hard enough?” – a way for her to say that she doesn’t understand the rules of the game. Gundo issued an apology video earlier:

Following the announcement, Mirei Gundo released a one-minute video addressing her tweet. In it, she stated that she apologizes for the tweet as it caused a lot of discomfort for many people, especially baseball fans. Gundo’s suspension cam after Japan‘s win at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, which saw Team Japan’s Shohei Ohtani striking out Team USA’s Mike Trout, resulting in a 3-2 victory in favor of Team Japan. Baseball remains the most watched sport in Japan, with around 30.9% of the population watching it in September 2022.

Through her graduation notice, Gundo will be making her last stream on June 21, with all of her social media channels set to private the next day. Moreover, Nijisanji will be closing fan letter submissions for Gundo on July 31.

Nijisanji has been recently dealing with a slew of graduations with four members from its former Indonesian branch graduating this year: ZEA Cornelia, Taka Radjiman, Siska Leontyne, and Amicia Michella. It recently terminated one of its English talents Zaion Lanza as well over multiple offenses, and dismissed Yugo Asuma in December 2022.

Nijisanji’s Mirei Gundo debuted alongside Roa Yuzuki in January 2019. She is described as “a female teacher at a full-of-“S”-energy all-boys school [who] loves sake and snacks“. As of this writing, she has over 450,000 subscribers on YouTube and over 440,000 followers on Twitter. On February 2020, she performed in the Zepp concert tour “NIJISANJI JAPAN TOUR 2020 Shout in the Rainbow!” at the Zepp Nagoya venue.
