Nisioisin's Cipher Academy Manga Begins in Weekly Shonen Jump, Gets Trailer

Nisioisin, known for his Monogatari novel and Medaka Box manga series, launched a new manga titled Cipher Academy (Ango Gakuen no Iroha) with art by Yuji Iwasaki in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The magazine featured the new manga on the cover and compiles the first chapter with a colored double-page spread at the beginning. On the same day, the official YouTube channel of Jump posted a trailer for the manga. The serialization was previously announced as one of four new titles in the issue of #49/2022 released on November 7.

Cipher Academy follows the protagonist Iroha Irohazaka’s school life at her spartan academy dedicated to code-cracking. The first chapter is 54 pages long. The magazine features two characters Irohazaka and a mysterious girl she has met, along with a code on a white paper as a question for readers “Can you crack this code?

The manga is being published in English on Shueisha’s MangaPLUS app:
Iroha is an average student newly enrolled in Cipher Academy, a Spartan school where students must crack code after code after code with barely enough time to catch their breath! Then a mysterious person named Kogoe gives Iroha an unusual pair of glasses with a crazy secret behind them!

Manga artist Yuji Iwasaki posted an illustration ahead of the manga’s release, and a part of the caption reads “I’m putting my all into drawing for the work to entertain you all, so I’d like to receive your support!

Nisio Isin ran a manga titled Medaka Box illustrated by Akira Akatsuki from May 2009 to April 2013 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine with a total of 22 volumes. The series inspired anime adaptations by the animation studio GAINAX. The first season aired from April to June 2012 with a total of 12 episodes, while the second season aired from October to December 2012 with 11 episodes and one extra episode. The duo also serialized Shonen Shojo in the publishing company’s monthly magazine Jump Square from January 2016 to April 2017 with a total of 3 volumes. His novel Juni Taisen: Zodiac War with art by Hikaru Nakamura also inspired a manga adaptation illustrated by Akira Akatsuki. The manga series ran from September 2017 to May 2018 in Shueisha’s web manga service Shonen Jump+ with a total of 4 volumes. The novel also received an anime adaptation by Studio Graphinica, which aired from October to December 2017 with a total of 12 episodes.
