Yu Tanaka writes the original Reincarnated as a Sword light novel. The novel started off on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in October 2015 with illustrations by LLO. GC Novels started publishing it in the light novel format in 2016. A manga adaptation by Tomowo Maruyama is ongoing as well, and there is also a spin-off manga Reincarnated as a Sword: Another Wish by Hinako Inoue, which began in June 2020. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the light novel, the manga, and the spin-off manga and they describe the story:
When a 30-year-old salaryman and games enthusiast is suddenly killed in a car accident, he finds himself reborn into a fantasy world…but in the form of a sword! Now he’s in search of a beautiful woman to wield him, and a catgirl named Fran might be the exact adventuring partner he needs.
