Spy x Family Episode 4 - What It Means To Be Elegant

Spy x Family episode 4 is all about elegance! We all know that the entrance interview is by far the most critical moment in Operation Strix. It’s not just Twilight too — Anya wants to keep her family while Yor wants to keep her secret job. They’re secretly a pretend family with personal motives. We even got to see them prepare and bond together last week. This episode, however, hits us right in the feels. Honestly, it brought me from laughing to crying real quick.

First off, the most fun about the Spy x Family episode 4 is the ridiculous entrance methods of the Eden Academy and in turn, how the Forger family conquers each of them. ( Remember folks, be elegant — always have an extra change of clothes.) It’s very amusing to watch all the stylish action, especially with Henderson’s dramatic reactions. It seems that Eden Academy is really looking to be an intense school that upholds excellence. That is until we meet the horrible Mr. Swan.

What makes this scene have so much weight is the fact that Anya doesn’t sob but instead, just… silently cries. Together with the music, it made the scene all the more heartbreaking (and annoying.) And when Loid tries to keep his composure, it brings me back to episode 1 when he said he disliked it when children cried and it was his reason for becoming a spy altogether.

Even though the family is just a set-up, it was such an incredible moment that Twilight and Yor would put everything aside just to protect Anya. It’s even cooler when Twilight said what he said and walks out. “If it’s your educational philosophy to disregard the feelings of children, then it looks like I’ve chosen the wrong school.” Much respect for the Headmaster Henry Henderson and his satisfying punch!

It was as if at that moment, it really felt like they weren’t a “spy” or “assassin” but like an actual Father and Mother to Anya. It’s super emotional and even I get goosebumps just thinking back on it. Even the little details all throughout the episode show that Loid cares a lot for Anya. I personally adored all their scripted answers even if they aren’t exactly true. Nevertheless, it felt so genuine, especially when Anya said she loved her Father and Mother a lot. Super wholesome moment.

Spy x Family episode 4 displayed a lot of good things to learn from. Eden Academy is an elitist school and while it began with judgment on the exterior aspects, I really think it all comes down to good character and mind. In the end, the way Twilight and Henry held themselves was truly honorable and elegant.

This series is getting better and better every week. I am truly rooting for this family. I honestly believe it deserves all the love and praise. It is really such a light-hearted and wholesome watch. In addition, there’s now an Anya figure and a Spy x Family Musical to watch out for. After episode 4, all I can say is the series is just pure ELEGANCE! If you missed it, the author Tatsuya Endo also made a drawing of Anya in response to the illustrations drawn by the voice actors! Check it below:
