Koshitan's Dance Scene Reaches 1 Million Views in Under 12 Hours

Some videos take years to reach the million-view mark. Of those who achieve that lofty goal in less than a day, the majority are award-winning artists, breaking news, or top YouTubers. But once again we’re reminded of the power of delinquent waifus, as My Deer Friend Nokotan‘s Koshitan’s dance scene reached 1 million views in under 12 hours.

Feature all you’d expect from such an unhinged show, there’s deer petting, deer hitting, cute blonde delinquent waifu hip swaying, a Bully McGuire dance, and a deer contemplating how easy it would be to bury a teenage girl in Nara Park.

Currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Anime Onegai (Latin America only), Crunchyroll, and even YouTube, My Deer Friend Nokotan is the comedy hit of the summer. The drug-induced hallucination of a show is adapted from Oshioshio’s manga of the same name which was serialized in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge from November 2019 until Shōnen Magazine Edge’s discontinuation in October 2023. Two months later, the manga found its new home in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket web manga.

The show is animated by the legendary WIT Studio and counts on Masahiko Ohta as its director, Ayumu Tsujimura as the character designer, Yasuhiro Misawa as the musical director, and Takashi Aoshima helming the script and composition. The VA cast includes;

As the former delinquent and current salt of the earth, Torako “Koshitan” Koshi walks to school contemplating how different life would be if her dark past was discovered, she walks right into her worst nightmare. Hanging from telephone wires while being circled by hyenas, a deer/human hybrid dangles without a care in the world. Trying to ignore the strange creature proves futile as Koshitan is coerced into helping. But instead of a thank you from the strange being she gets called a filthy no-good delinquent. As she tries to escape the horrid situation she finds herself in, to her horror the deer/human hybrid transfers into her class and proceeds to denounce her for her sordid past. And with that being the most unusual of friendships.
