Slow Loop Manga Goes on Hiatus as Author Focuses on Breast Cancer Treatment

The fishing-themed manga Slow Loop will be going on hiatus as its creator, Maiko Uchino, focuses on breast cancer treatment. She explained that she underwent breast cancer removal surgery last month, and she will now begin medication-based treatment.

The announcement was made on February 21 by Manga Time Kirara Forward’s editorial team, explaining that the hiatus will begin from Chapter 77 onward.

Official Statement from the Editorial Team

In their statement, the editorial team expressed gratitude to readers and explained the reason for the hiatus:

“Thank you for always supporting Slow Loop. Due to Maiko Uchino-sensei’s health condition, the serialization of Slow Loop will be on hiatus from Chapter 77 onwards.”

Additionally, the team revealed that once the series resumes, it will transition from being published in Manga Time Kirara Forward to Houbunsha’s digital platform, COMIC FUZ.

“The resumption date will be announced later in Manga Time Kirara Forward and COMIC FUZ. We apologize to all readers who were looking forward to upcoming chapters and appreciate your understanding and continued support for Slow Loop.”

Maiko Uchino’s Personal Statement

Uchino also addressed the fans, apologizing for the hiatus and explaining her situation:

“Thank you for always reading Slow Loop. I sincerely apologize for the two consecutive months of hiatus. Last month, I underwent breast cancer removal surgery, and I will now begin medication-based treatment. Considering the possible side effects, I may not be able to maintain a stable serialization schedule, which could cause issues for the magazine. Because of this, we decided to move the series to Houbunsha’s COMIC FUZ app instead.”

She also took this moment to raise awareness about the importance of regular health checkups, urging her readers and fellow creators to take care of their health:

“I debated whether to reveal my diagnosis, but through this experience, I’ve come to realize the importance of regular health screenings. To all my readers, freelancers, and fellow manga artists—please go for checkups! I know life gets busy, and hospitals can be intimidating, but delayed detection makes treatment even harder. I decided to share this in hopes of encouraging everyone to prioritize their health. So please, get your checkups!”
