Japanese singer luz (real name: Koji Tatewaki) unexpectedly passed away on August 19, 2025, at the age of 32. The announcement was made by his agency, ESPERANZA, on August 20.

Luz was active both as an utaite performer and in anime music. His works include “Kakuriyo,” used as the opening theme for the Dark Gathering anime, and “SISTER,” the ending theme for Cutie Honey Universe.

In January 2024, luz was arrested on charges of illegal drug possession and use. He later received a suspended sentence of one year and eight months in prison, with three years of probation. Following his arrest, Pony Canyon terminated his contract on January 30, 2024. His agency, ESPERANZA, subsequently issued a public apology, and luz himself released a statement expressing remorse and reflection during his suspension from activities.

In accordance with the wishes of his family, the funeral service will be held privately with only close relatives in attendance. Out of respect for the family’s wishes, we will not be disclosing further details.
