The official website for the GATE 2 anime revealed a new interview with animation producer Hattori of Studio M2, which is responsible for the upcoming series’ animation production. He discussed how the teams from the direction, writing, production committee, on-site production, and the source material sides met to hash out the scripts and shared his experience in doing so.

Hattori later says, “At the time I’m writing this letter, all scripts have been completed, and we’re moving forward with setting design and storyboards. Since we were able to announce the second season early, we’ve been feeling both the excitement and the healthy pressure from everyone’s reactions. That energy pushes us to make the best series we can.” The series is still in the early stages of production, Hattori added.

After a 10-year wait (see link for staff and plot details), the GATE 2 anime will adapt Takumi Yanai’s GATE Season 2 light novel series, the sequel to the original GATE series, which features a new cast (and so effectively skips arcs not covered by the first anime). Alpha Manga licenses the manga adaptation in North America, while Sentai Filmworks (HIDIVE) licenses the anime adaptation by studio A-1 Pictures. HIDIVE describes it:
A mysterious gate unleashes an otherworldly attack. Accidental hero, Itami, is sent to the other world with the military.
GATE 2‘s release date is TBC.
UPDATED: Article changed to reflect that the GATE 2 anime covers the GATE Season 2 light novels, and not that GATE 2 is a direct continuation of the events of the 24-episode GATE anime.
