HoYoverse has announced that Genshin Impact Version Luna VIII: Sunny Summer Fontinalia will launch on July 1. The update will add Sandrone as a playable character, along with debuting a new combat reaction system and allowing players to travel beyond Teyvat and explore the moon for the first time.
The main addition is Sandrone, the Seventh of the Fatui Harbingers, who returns after her apparent sacrifice during the battle of Nod-Krai. Now joining the roster as a 5-star Cryo Claymore user, Sandrone specializes in the newly introduced Stellar-Conduct mechanic and fights alongside her autonomous construct, Fagio. Her abilities are based around creating and enhancing Polestar Fields, which amplify damage and provide team-wide buffs.
Version Luna VIII also introduces Stellar-Conduct, a new Cryo-Electro elemental reaction. When triggered by specific Cryo and Electro characters, the reaction creates a Polestar Field that boosts Stellar-Conduct, Cryo, and Electro damage while lowering enemy Physical Resistance. Certain existing Cryo and Electro characters will receive additional benefits while fighting inside the field.
Perhaps the update’s biggest addition is the long-awaited journey to the Frost Moon, which will be a permanent explorable region. Players will board a spacecraft and venture beyond Teyvat to discover lunar seas, orbital space stations, ancient ruins connected to the dragon race, and new travel mechanics involving gravity manipulation. HoYoverse is also introducing layered map functionality for both Teyvat and the moon to improve navigation.
The version’s Event Wishes will feature:
- Phase 1: Sandrone and Citlali
- Phase 2: Columbina and Raiden Shogun
Meanwhile, Fontaine’s Fontinalia Film Festival will serve as the update’s main event. The celebration brings together Charlotte, Citlali, Columbina, Sandrone, and other familiar faces aboard the Wingalet. Players can manage an aquarium attraction, participate in various festival activities, and permanently experience the event’s story. Completing the event rewards players with a free copy of Charlotte and a new outfit for the character, while Citlali will also get a new costume available at a limited-time discount.
Besides the main adventure, Miliastra Wonderland will get a summer-themed lobby, new cosmetic options, additional editor tools, and expanded environment assets for creators. Players can also earn free rewards, including Prismatic Crystals and a new four-star equipment set.
The announcement was crowned with a new trailer teasing Sandrone’s return, the moon, and several story developments leading into the game’s next major update.
HoYoverse also released a separate Snezhnaya Ecology Teaser, offering an early look at the upcoming Snezhnaya expansion scheduled to launch on August 12.
Version Luna VIII arrives on July 1 across PlayStation, Xbox, PC, iOS, and Android.
