Episode 3 of Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie has premiered and we finally got to see the two lovebirds go on a movie date. We also had the chance to meet Shikimori’s big brother, Fuji Shikimori, who is voiced by Hiro Shimono. More importantly, we got to learn a lot more about the other characters around Izumi and Shikimori.
Knowing that our main character Izumi is somehow unfortunate, the movie date didn’t go as planned but it was wholesome. Izumi may not be the cool boyfriend material but his kind-heartedness makes up for it and he treats Shikimori wholeheartedly. Like how he gave Shikimori the freedom to choose which film to watch or when he wanted to treat her to a fancy pastry shop. However, all those things weren’t as perfect as they sounded but at least we got to see another cool shot from Shikimori as she holds Izumi’s hand while watching a horror movie.
And since Izumi dropped his wallet again, they were unable to eat at that fancy pastry shop but they happen to stumble upon Izumi’s parents. Do you see the pattern here whenever something unfortunate happens to Izumi, there’s always a positive outcome? Since they weren’t able to eat outside, Izumi’s parents invited Shikimori into their place to share dinner with the whole family. It’s finally time for the parents to have dinner with their son’s gorgeously cool girlfriend.
The most wholesome part of the episode was when we get to see Izumi’s childhood, during which his mother always worried about his misfortune. No matter how injured Izumi was, he always had a kind smile on his face. He doesn’t want the people around him to worry too much and instead he wants to be the one looking out for them. And when Izumi’s mom asked Shikimori for a favor – not to leave his side, my heart just felt so comfy.
Izumi does get involved into trouble pretty much often. Perhaps others see it as unfortunate. But for me, I’ve never thought of it as misfortune. That’s not his defect. I believe he’s so kind only because he’s more unfortunate than others. What’s more, Izumi understands pain more than anyone else. Even so, he never pities himself and he’s able to worry about others. Izumi is very strong and cool. I’ll be sure to protect him.
– Shikimori
With Shikimori’s reassuring words, Izumi’s mom was finally able to see him off with a smile – knowing that Shikimori would always be by his side from now on. Now that is what makes this series truly wholesome. There are more heartwarming moments to come so stay tuned and keep rooting for this lovely couple!
