Special Gallery Opened In Memory Of Late Kyoto Animation Director

Family of Mikiko Watanabe, a late Kyoto Animation art director, decided to open a gallery celebrating her works. She died last July during the Kyoto Animation arson attack at the age of 35.
She was an instructor at the KyoAni School for a very long time and was passing down the skills that she learned over the years herself. She was mostly known for working on shows such as:

  • Hyouka (2012)
  • Beyond the Boundary (2013)
  • A Silent Voice (2016)
  • Tsurune: Kazemai koukou kyuudoubu (2018)
  • Violet Evergarden (2018)
  • Liz and the Blue Bird (2018)

Her aunt, Setsuko Tsuchida, decided to open the gallery to keep a living proof of Mikiko Watanabe’s life. “Even though the work are backgrounds, they’re all wonderfully detailed pictures. I want people from all walks of life to see them.”, she said. Kyoto Animation helped her with providing her with printed images for the gallery. They also provided Setsuko with data from Mikiko’s personal computer.

The gallery itself is opened inside Kuwana Machi no Eki in Mie Prefecture.
