“Combatants Will Be Dispatched” finale is finally out! The previous episode ended on a cliffhanger where Russel obtains the ancient weapon that can defeat all creatures in the world. Thus, this episode is the conclusion of Agent 6 and Russell’s battle, as well as their mission. Furthermore, it also contains some of KonoSuba’s iconic beings, such as “Chunchunmaru, Useless Archpriest, and The Destroyer”. It’s not surprising that we can see them in this anime since the two of them have the same author. However, ‘Combatants’ has its own version of them.
Well, just in case you didn’t know, series author Natsume Akatsuki wrote ‘Combatants Will Be Dispatched’ first before KonoSuba.
To start off, Russell is trying to destroy the ruins using the ancient weapon (see above) while Agent 6’s team is hiding inside it. Rose suggests that she will try to talk to Russell, since they are from the same species. However, Agent 6 noticed that she is trembling with fear while she’s saying it.
Hence, Alice came up with a plan that puts Agent 6’s life in danger. He will entertain Russell until Alice assembles a certain weapon that she requested from their headquarters. Snow is hesitant to go with the plan because she thinks of Agent 6’s life. Nevertheless, Alice tells them that he is her strong partner and Agent 6 says that she is his smart partner. It is the reason why the title of the “Combatants Will Be Dispatched” finale is “Strong Partner and Smart Partner.”
Then, Agent 6 fulfills his mission, and just before Russell can crush him, Alice appears in front of them using the weapon she assembled. Agent 6 said that the name of that weapon is “The Destroyer.” It makes the enemies tremble in fear and allies cheer for you.
For me, it looks like this is one of the references of the Destroyer that you can find in episode 10 of KonoSuba Season 1.
As a result of using “The Destroyer,” Russell lost. Unfortunately, Agent 6 collapsed. He took so much damage from his battle with Russell that he fell into a 3-day coma.
The time came where Agent 6 is finally awake. There, Alice tells him about everything that happened after the fight. However, to Agent 6’s surprise, he notices that Alice is taking off his pants and underwear. So, he concludes that Alice wants to see his “majestic member.”
Alice rebuts, saying that she isn’t interested in his “Chunchunmaru.” Of course, Agent 6 is annoyed from what she said, and tells her don’t call it “Chunchumaru.” Alice informs him that she was taking care of his toilet needs when he was still in coma.
“Chunchunmaru” is another reference from one the things in KonoSuba. In the anime, Megumin gave this name to Kazuma’s newly-made sword.
After their conversation, they went to see Russell and let Tigerman torture him. Therefore, Russell agrees to supply them water so that Tigerman won’t do anything disgusting to him.
Another scene we have is Grimm throwing tantrums at Agent 6 because she died again even before the battle in the ruins starts. Agent 6 suggests that he will talk to Tillis to put Grimm on a different unit. He thinks that maybe there, she can become useful.
In case you missed it, Grimm is an archpriest from a religion who worships the god called Zenalith. Also, through the entire series, Grimm always dies first every time a battle is about to start. Therefore, Agent 6, and Alice thinks that she is a useless archpriest. Luckily, she can be revived when they put her corpse on an altar with an offering and wait until midnight.
In my opinion, this is a reference to Aqua’s role in KonoSuba. Aqua is a god who descent from heaven because of Kazuma’s request. Her role is a useless archpriest.
One of Grimm’s curses is that when she put anything on her feet, she will explode. Alice put a pair of socks on her and the curse took its effect. She died again even without having a fight. Worse is that on this “Combatants Will Be Dispatched” finale is that she died twice.
There is also a scene here that shows Faustless and “The Chosen One” are at the Kisaragi Corporation headquarters. In case you didn’t know, “The Chosen One” is the brother of Tillis, and Faustless is one of the executives of the Demon Lord. In the 5th episode of the anime, it is said that the two of them suddenly vanished due to teleportation magic. Now, we finally knew where they are.
Also, before the ending of the episode, Agent 6 is also requesting for additional combat agents. Therefore, Astaroth thinks if she must go there personally to help Agent 6. The series ended with Agent 6 talking to Alice about the future.
For a comedy anime, it is a befitting ending for me. Given that they introduced three new characters, together with the Demon Lord in the ending scene of the finale, I hope the anime gets a season 2.
As the series ends, author Akatsuki thanks all of the fans on Twitter:

With world domination nearly in their grasp, the Supreme Leaders of the Kisaragi Corporation—an underground criminal group turned evil megacorp—have decided to try their hands at interstellar conquest. A quick dice roll nominates their chief operative, Combat Agent Six, to be the one to explore an alien planet…and the first thing he does when he gets there is change the sacred incantation for a holy ritual to the most embarrassing thing he can think of.
But evil deeds are business as usual for Kisaragi operatives, so if Six wants a promotion and a raise, he’ll have to work much harder than that! For starters, he’ll have to do something about the other group of villains on the planet, who are calling themselves the “Demon Lord’s Army” or whatever. After all, this world doesn’t need two evil organizations!
