The Oshi No Ko season 2 op reaches 5 million views in less than three days. An achievement that usually takes videos weeks, if not months, to accomplish was surpassed in one day by the opening featuring GEMN’s “Fatal.” Winning the most anticipated anime of the 2024 summer season in our recent poll, the first episode of Oshi No Ko, titled “Tokyo Blade” premiered on HIDIVE today to much fanfare. The opening, which features a touch of macabre, muted colors, and fast-paced action plays like Quentin Tarantino quickly topped a million views, being one of the fastest of the season to do so, and its view climb only skyrocketed from there. Streaming exclusively on HIDIVE, the anime adaptation of Aka Akasaka’s Oshi No Ko debuted its second season’s first episode today. Animated by Doga Kobo and produced by Shueisha, CyberAgent, and Kadokawa, under the direction of Takeshita Ryohei and Daisuke Hiramaki, the show is a glimpse into how dark and repressive a life in show business can be.
Idols are supposed to be the epitome of perfection. They’re supposed to smile, wave and dazzle. The issues and horrors that plague the hoi polloi are far removed from them. But what happens when that facade fades? As the renowned lead of B-Komachi finds out, it just further adds to the lies she lives every day. Upon becoming pregnant with Ai is forced to retreat to an isolated mountain hospital to give birth, where she’s attended to by Dr. Gorou Amemiya, a devoted fan of hers who promises to be with her through the ordeal.
But, on the night of her labor, he’s killed by one of her deranged fans, and to his surprise, he’s reincarnated as her son, Aquamarine Hoshino! And as he settles into the life of being his favorite idol’s son, things are torn apart by Ai’s sudden and violent murder. Seeking revenge for the woman he so loves, Aqua dives head first into the world of show business to discover the dark secrets that took his beloved Ai from him.
Oshi no Ko is part of HIDIVE’s lineup at this year’s Anime Expo. The second episode will be screened exclusively on July 6, ahead of the airdate.
