Scarlet Nexus Episode 12: The Secrets Of The Red Strings

Scarlet Nexus episode 12 sheds some light on the secrets behind the red strings! Our heroes find themselves at Togetsu, where they find out more about what’s really going on around here. The tension from the mysteries heightens, as it becomes less and less clear who is friend or foe. Let’s talk about the episode’s key talking points in a spoiler-filled discussion!

One massive exposition dump

A lot of information is revealed to the characters of the show in Scarlet Nexus episode 12. Almost all of this information is conveyed through one massive exposition dump. Yuito and the company find an AI hologram that they can ask questions to. They ask about a number of things, and this AI takes the time to carefully explain what’s going on. There’s a lot of lore that is delivered on this front, as well as information regarding their current plight.

This Togetsu hologram reveals a ton of information to Yuito.

It’s this kind of thing that has plagued Scarlet Nexus for most of its season. The story that Scarlet Nexus sets out to tell is has been rather boring. A lot of it does come down to how they convey information in their story. Sure, lore is really interesting, and for a lot of stories, it can flesh out the world behind the main plot.

However, that isn’t going to happen through something like this. So many times throughout the show, the exposition has been delivered in such monotonous and ham-fisted manners. It does help the plot progress, but it does so at the expense of making the story more turgid and tedious than it already is.

Hopefully moving forward, the story can develop in a more natural and organic manner. But seeing what’s gone on in Scarlet Nexus’ story so far, it’s not likely for that to happen any time soon.

Time for a prison break!

It also looks like a prison break is about to shape up! In an enclosed room, Kasane recalls memories of having been in Togetsu. Just before she’s able to make sense of these memories, Kageru arrives at her doorstep, ready to bust her out!

Kageru has been a mysterious figure for the team since he’s been introduced. He’s charming and witty and sometimes seems to know more than he’s letting on. That certainly seemed like the case last week, when he left the team as they entered Togetsu. It turns out that he was right to do so! And now he’s here, ready to break his team out.

Kasane and Kageru team up to break their team out!

Kasane is wary of Kageru at first, but after some convincing, she joins him in breaking out. Now, with Kageru’s powers of invisibility, the two seem to be looking to break out the rest of the team. A prison break sequence is always fun to watch, and it will be interesting to see how the team combat the Togetsu security. We’ll have to wait till next week to see just how it goes down!

Yuito in trouble

In order to gain more information, Yuito seeks the aid of BABE, Togetsu’s central computer system. Following a shady Togetsu guard, Yuito and company are led to a dark, mysterious location. There sits a white table with a thick, pale book. Yuito puts his hand on it, expecting a hologram to show up.

However, what happens next is far direr than anyone expects. A bunch of alerts blares up in Yuito’s view. The red pop-ups are overwhelming for him. It’s so overwhelming that his body refuses to move. With a furrowed brow, Yuito’s eyes widen as he gets more than he bargained for.

What’s happening to Yuito? Once again, he finds himself right at the heart of danger! Do the secrets they seek really lie by that book? Or was it a trap all along? These are the questions posed by Scarlet Nexus episode 12’s cliffhanger!

A number of interesting developments are set to spring to life in next week’s episode. With Kasane’s prison break and Yuito’s turmoil, there’s a lot to resolve in the coming chapter of the story. Hopefully, the story picks up from here and provides memorable moments moving forward!

Scarlet Nexus is streaming on Funimation and on the Ani-One Asia Official YouTube channel! Episode 13 comes out on September 23rd.
