Sony Pictures Entertainment revealed that the previously announced “screen adaptation” for Shin Sawada and Renji Asai’s The Violence Action manga is going to be a live-action film. The film will premiere in Summer 2022.
Kanna Hashimoto will star as the protagonist, Kei Kikuno. Hashimoto is a Japanese actress and a former member of the Japanese Idol group ‘Rev. from DVL’ who starred in live adaptations of Gintama, Kaguya-Sama Love is War, Kingdom, Yowamushi Pedal, and many more.
The Violence Action is a manga created by author Shin Sawada and artist Renji Asai. The manga was first launched on Yawaraka Spirits, an online magazine by Shogakukan on April 25, 2016, and as of right now it has a total of 6 volumes. The manga ranked in the top 20 list of manga for male audiences in the 2018 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!). The artist Renji Asai recently worked on Mamoru Hosoda’s The Boy and the Beast manga adaptation. Shin Sawada, who is also known under his real name Daisuke Muroi, is best known for drawing the Reiri manga with the author Hitoshi Iwaaki.
The Violence Action manga focuses on Kei Kikuno, nicknamed “Kay” – a normal university student and a part-time hitwoman with John Wick-like skills.
