Demon Slayer: Infinity Train Overtakes Your Name As The 2nd Highest Grossing Anime Film In Japan

It’s going up! According to the official Twitter account, the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Train Arc” anime film is now the 2nd highest grossing anime film in Japan. Of all time. It earned around ~25.9 billion yen (approximately ~$247 million USD) and overtook Makoto Shinkai’s famous “Your Name” anime film, which sits at 25.03 billion yen. It has only been 39 days since it released on October 16 of this year. Here’s another reminder of the latest visual for the movie:

The only anime film that has earned more in Japan now is Spirited Away (2001). However, it’s very likely that the Demon Slayer: Infinity Train movie will overtake it before this year ends. Spirited Away’s revenue is roughly 30.8B yen. They also announced new “freebies” to be given to the fans in theaters. The first one was released on November 14, with a new coming every 2 weeks. Those might just push it to first place! Its numbers in Japan are also big enough to place it high even on the worldwide gross list. After today, it’s ranked 3rd, with only Titanic between the anime films.
