The Fable anime was first announced in July 2023, with a first teaser trailer released the following month. It is based on a manga series written and illustrated by Katsuhisa Minami. It was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine from November 2014 to November 2019. A sequel titled The Fable: The Second Contact started in Weekly Young Magazine in July 2021. Kodansha USA has licensed the manga in English:
When you’re the infamous “genius killer” hitman The Fable, many things come easy. Being a normal person, however, isn’t one of them. In fact, being told that he can’t kill anyone for a while may just be the hardest job he’s ever taken…
The manga received a live-action film adaptation in June 2019, starring Junichi Okada, Fumino Kimura, Mizuki Yamamoto, and Kai Iwonaki, to name a few. The film is available for viewing on Netflix. A sequel film titled The Fable: A Hitman Who Doesn’t Kill premiered on June 18, 2021.
