Netflix has announced Leviathan, a new anime from CGI studio ORANGE with the legendary Joe Hisaishi on the music. The anime will premiere in 2025, and they briefly describe it: On the brink of war in 1914, a fugitive prince and a girl in disguise change the course of history.
Qubic Pictures is producing, with Christophe Ferreira as the director. Justin Leach and Daiki Sakurai are serving as executive producers. All three were previously involved with Eden. Besides Joe Hisaishi on original songs, Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi will be in charge of the musical score.
Leviathan is originally a 2009 novel written by Scott Westerfeld and illustrated by Keith Thompson. It is the first work in the Leviathan trilogy, followed by sequels Behemoth and Goliath. It was awarded the title of Best Young Adult Novel by the Aurealis Award in 2009.
Studio ORANGE is known for their incredible work on Land of the Lustrous, BEASTARS and TRIGUN: STAMPEDE. Joe Hisaishi is well known for his work on Hayao Miyazaki’s movies, as well as his work on Ni no Kuni. The project definitely looks interesting, and more details are expected at a later date.
