Studio Encourage Films Changes Name to Kachigarasu

According to the National Tax Agency Corporate Number Publication Site published by the National Tax Agency Japan, animation studio Encourage Films (エンカレッジフィルムズ) changed its name to Kachigarasu (鵲) on December 28, 2023.

Encourage Films was founded in Musashino, Tokyo, on August 5, 2008, by ex-Gonzo producer Touyou Ikeda and animator/director Fumitoshi Oizaki, with Ikeda taking on the role of president and CEO and Oizaki taking the role of managing director. The company’s first production was the short-form web series Ontama! (2009) with Oizaki as director. The studio also started to take on gross outsource services for other productions, including to series Oizaki directed at other studios. In 2013, Ikeda passed away, and Oizaki succeeded him as president and CEO of the company.

The studio produced its first television production in 2015, Etotama, with studio Shirogumi. In recent years, Encourage Films has often collaborated with studio Diomedea, with the taking on production of some episodes of Beatless (2018) and Ahiru no Sora (2019), and Diomedea’s head of production, Kenjirou Kawando, serving as an animation producer for some of Encourage Film’s projects. The company moved its headquarters to Nerima in 2018.

The last series produced under the “Encourage Films” name was Akuma-kun (2023), directed by Oizaki with Junichi Satou as chief director. The “Kachigarasu” studio was recently announced to be producing the upcoming Gorilla no Kami television series also directed by Oizaki and assisted by studio Diomedea.
