The previously announced Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: The Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved movie revealed a new key visual and a June 27 premiere date in Japan. Shiori Suigura will replace Tomomi Mineuchi as Ilulu.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is based on a manga written and illustrated by Coolkyousinnjya. The manga has been ongoing since 2013. It was serialized in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine until 2024, but after the magazine ceased publication it was moved to Manga Action. Four spin-off titles, Kanna’s Daily Life, Elma’s Office Lady DiaryLucoa is my xx, and Fafnir the Recluse, were also serialized in Monthly Action and later moved to Web Action.

Kyoto Animation animated the first season of the anime adaptation in 2017 with Yasuhiro Takemoto as the director. Takemoto, who died in the 2019 arson attack on the studio, was co-credited as the director of the second season with Tatsuya Ishihara. The second season, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, aired in 2021 for 12 episodes.
