The author of No Game No Life, Yu Kamiya, took to X to dispel fake news about a Season 2 anime following the latest “leaks” regarding the series. He mentioned that he had many DMs this morning, but that it was all due to a baseless rumor. He was referring to a viral post that claimed that a sequel anime production by MADHOUSE had been confirmed. You can read Kamiya’s message below:
“Good morning. I woke up to a ridiculous number of DMs, but they’re all fake rumors. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t contact me about them.”
Ryo Hiiragi, a graphic designer who worked on the series, responded, saying that they were also surprised for a second before realizing they would have known about it if it was real. The account that posted the viral post has since been deleted.
Yu Kamiya began writing No Game No Life in April 2012, and the light novel is still ongoing. Yen Press licensed the novel in English, with Volume 12 released in 2023. A manga adaptation began in 2013 with art by Kamiya’s wife, Mashiro Hiiragi, releasing two volumes so far.
The anime adaptation by studio MADHOUSE ran from April 9 to June 24, 2014. The story follows the two genius siblings Shiro and Sora. They are summoned to another world where games solve everything there. Crunchyroll streams the anime, describing the story:
They are both NEETs and Hikikomoris… but on the internet, the genius gamer siblings Sora and Shiro are known as the undefeatable “__” (blank). Sora and Shiro’s talents and skills are so abnormally good they are considered as urban legend. One day a young boy Teto appears before them, claiming to be “One’s Lord”.
The anime got a rebroadcast in Japan in 2021, and the series surpassed over 6 million copies in circulation. The franchise also celebrated its 10th anniversary last year.
