Anne Shirley, the new anime adaptation of the Anne of Green Gables classic children’s novel from 1908, revealed a key visual and trailer, along with an April 5, 2025 premiere date. The Answer Studio in charge of the animation, with the anime set to run for 24 episodes. The anime was previously announced with preview images, while you can watch the new trailer below.
Hiroshi Kawamata is directing, with Kenichi Tsuchiya as the character designer. The main voice cast includes Honoka Inoue as Anne Shirley, Yume Miyamoto as Diana Barry, Naoya Miyase as Gilbert Blythe, Aya Nakamura as Marilla Cuthbert and Yasunori Matsumoto as Matthew Cuthbert.

Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote the original novel, which follows Anne Shirley as she mistakenly gets sent to live with siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert in the fictional village of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island.
Since its publication in 1908, Anne of Green Gables has become one of the best-selling books worldwide with over 50 million sold copies. It has been translated into at least 36 languages. Besides the new anime, the story has inspired numerous other adaptations, including movies, TV series, as well as radio and stage productions.
The novel is known in Japan as Red-haired Anne (Akage no An), where it has been included in the national school curriculum since 1952. A 50-episode TV anime adaptation was animated by Nippon Animation as part of their World Masterpiece Theater series in 1979. It was directed by Isao Takahata, with the legendary Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli handling the scene setting and layout.
