Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- marks the first-ever major collaboration between Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno’s studio khara, and Sunrise, the home of the Mobile Suit Gundam animated works. The film’s staff list revealed an all-star roster of creatives who have created some of the most memorable and acclaimed anime works of the last 30 years.
Among them are director Kazuya Tsurumaki (Evangelion, FLCL), and screenwriters Anno and Yoji Enokido (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Bungo Stray Dogs, FLCL) who is attached as series supervisor and screenwriter.
GQuuuuuuX‘s theme song “Plazma” was written, composed, and arranged by global J-pop superstar, Kenshi Yonezu — whose global influence saw him become the first artist to achieve an RIAA Gold certification for a Japanese-language song. “Plazma” was released digitally on January 20th, topping the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart dated January 29.
The cover art is drawn by Yonezu himself, featuring two of the film’s protagonists Amate Yuzuriha (Machu) and Nyaan. You can listen to it on major music streaming services here. The song also achieved No.1 on the YouTube trends chart on January 21.
