AnimEigo, in collaboration with its parent company MediaOCD, has announced that the anime film NASU: Summer in Andalusia will be released on Blu-ray for the first time in an English-friendly home media edition. The film will be available starting tomorrow, March 11, 2025, and includes a limited edition slipcover. The release is in partnership with Synergetic.
About NASU: Summer in Andalusia
Originally produced by studio MADHOUSE, NASU: Summer in Andalusia was directed by Kitaro Kosaka, a veteran animator known for his work on Spirited Away and The Wind Rises. The 2003 film made history as the first Japanese anime feature to ever be selected to compete at the Cannes Film Festival.
This new Blu-ray edition includes a retrospective interview with Kosaka, reflecting on his career and contributions to the industry, including his time with Studio Ghibli. Other special features of the release include official trailers, full feature storyboards, and both 5.1 and 2.0 lossless Japanese audio options with English subtitles.
The official synopsis:
IN ANY GOOD RACE, IT ALWAYS COMES DOWN TO THE LAST LEG!
It’s been a nonstop swelter in Andalusia this summer—even before the hot-blooded cyclists of this year’s La Vuelta came zooming in! Competing as a second-string racer for a third-rate sponsor, Andalusian native Pepe Benengeli isn’t exactly the favorite to win. Well, that is unless you’re talking to the folks at his brother’s wedding reception! But when a series of mid- race revelations leave him at a crossroads, Pepe explodes in an all-out attack toward the finish line! Some of the teams or riders featured in Nasu were notably influenced by the name and/or uniforms and techniques used by actual international cycling teams or riders in the early 2000s
The Blu-ray is priced at $19.99 and is available for pre-order through MediaOCD’s official store. Additional information about the film and the pre-order link can be found here.
